About the service
The disability service team provides advice and support to children and young people up to the age of 18, who live in North Staffordshire with developmental delay, learning disability and physical disability including those who may have complex health needs and their families.
The team aims to assist and support children and young people and their families to understand and manage the difficulties they may be experiencing due to their disability, by providing highly specialist assessments, information advice and support.
The team is able to help with difficulties such as; behaviour which is challenging, low mood and anxiety, feeding/dietary problems, sleep difficulties, skill development, autistic spectrum disorders(ASD), fears and phobias, concerns about development.
The team consists of Psychologists, and Psychological therapists, Learning Disability Nurses and an Occupational Therapist, the team will provide assessments and interventions in a variety of settings appropriate to the child and family e.g. Family home, school, nursery, short break provision, clinic. The team regularly runs groups for parents and carers providing information, support and training to address behavioural management, social skills, parenting and ASD.
The team also provides a dedicated service to some special schools in Stoke-on-Trent.
